An early 19th or possibly late 18th Century English veneer frame, I believe it is rosewood. The veneer is thick and secure with lovely grain and colour. It is a beautiful looking frame but it requires the fitting of an inner moulding to form a rebate, this is relatively straight forward and could be done with a natural wood with a stained and polished finish, or it could be gilded which I think would look great. This inner moulding can be made from any normal moulding by cutting it backwards, alternatively a double rebated moulding could be used. Apart from this the frame is in very good condition with just signs of its age and with typical minor surface dents and marks. The backing frame has dovetail joints while the main profile is joined with thin feather splines. Original brass hangers.
