A 19th Century plaster ornamented fluted cove frame, it has a partial makers label which is English, although the style was used a lot in France and variations of it are called Second Empire or simply Neoclassical frames. The frame has been completely re-finished at some point in time, in bronze gilt over the original gilding, despite this there are distressed areas with red coming through which add some depth and the finishing has been done reasonably well. Minor signs of age but no lost ornament, the gesso on the central flat is cracking and starting to lift slightly but none is lost.
