A superb 19th Century frame with gilded composition ornament and wide water gilded slip. The frame has its original gold leaf finish, with a few losses to the ornament, fine cracks in composition and some gesso loss to the sides. It has a makers label and was made by Polak Brothers, 17 Rathbone Place, Oxford Street, London between 1876 and 1879 (This historical date information is based on the years Polak Bros. traded from this address, and was provided by the National Portrait Gallery website.)
