A gilded oak veneer inner frame with bevel sight edge and beading ornament, this gilding is in excellent original condition as there was glazing between the inner and outer frames. The ornamented outer frame has three runs of laurel leaf composition ornament with some losses and antique patina.
Label on back shows the maker as W.A. Smith*, who traded from the address on the label from 1880 to 1890. W.A. Smith made frames for many leading artist of the day such as G.F. Watts, Holman Hunt, and John Singer Sargent to name a few.
