A good quality French made 19th Century composition Barbizon or Salon gallery frame. Fine compo ornament with laurel leaf high point, stylised acanthus leaf cove with small inner bead and reel and shot patterns. The frame is in very good antique condition, original gilding, with just some small looses to the ornament, and overall a lovely example of a composition frame.

Louis XIV Corner and Centre 20th Century

A late 20th Century French Louis XIV corner and centre style frame, with a paint and gilt finish. Excellent condition with no areas of damage, just light wear from handling and moving, constructed with mitre splines. It was made around the 1960's, the style is often called a Montparnasse frame.

An early 20th Century Watts frame, it has been overpainted, with a small number of losses to the composition ornament and numerous large cracks all around the outer ornament. The flat panel has some signs of oak grain although the overpaint obscures this, this grain could be oak veneer or imitation oak grain.

A 19th Century Watts frame in poor to average condition, it has areas of original gilding but also some overpainting in places, especially on the outer ornament. Numerous losses to the ornament. Having said that it is still possible to use for period framing once restored.

A good quality 19th Century Watts frame, with original gold leaf finish, overall condition is very good with just a number of small losses to the composition ornament, and some gesso loss to the sides. Watts frames are always a good period framing style for 19th Century and Victorian paintings.

Gilded Oak with Composition Ornament

A gilded oak veneer inner frame with bevel sight edge and beading ornament, this gilding is in excellent original condition as there was glazing between the inner and outer frames. The ornamented outer frame has three runs of laurel leaf composition ornament with some losses and antique patina.
Label on back shows the maker as W.A. Smith*, who traded from the address on the label from 1880 to 1890. W.A. Smith made frames for many leading artist of the day such as G.F. Watts, Holman Hunt, and John Singer Sargent to name a few.

This is a website devoted to the sale of antique, old, and reproduction frames.

To find all the frames of a certain style or type, you can use the Search box at the top right of the page, click on the Labels links, or use the Blog Archive links on the right.

If you would like to buy a frame you can do so at the bottom of each individual frame post, by using the drop down box to pick your relevant region and shipping option, and then click on the 
PayPal Buy Now Button. Tax will be added at the PayPal checkout depending on your location. The PayPal Buy Now buttons are encrypted for security.

Frames can be collected from my workshop in Worcestershire, UK, or shipped Worldwide. Frames will be sent in individually made shipping boxes.
